Wetsanding?

Twister

I have a few scratches in my boat and I was planning on wetsanding the hull and then finishing with teflon polish. The boat is a 2000, but it was only sailed for one summer before I bought it. It has been suggested that leaving the hull would be faster, but I don't see why.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Just a few scratches? If they're not deep gouges and just a few of them, I'd leave 'em be until the hull really needs refinishing. If they are pretty deep and just a few, I'd go with filling them in with gelcoat and finish off the gelcoat repairs nicely when the weather gets cooler. A few scratches won't significantly affect your speed, and most likely nobody will notice them except you. It's summer; would you rather spend time refinishing your hull, or on the water sailing?

I got a go with Jay on this one....summer is for sailing, if you are a serious racer there would be much more to be gained from time on the water than from a smooth hull (not that there is anything wrong with that) but I feel that wet sanding the hull gives mostly a phycological advantage and not a real measurable increase in preformance.

i would wetsand only the scratches, then polish the whole hull, doesnt take any time away from sailing unless of course you do it on the weekend

the teflon helps keep the boat clean even if it doesnt make you faster
