    Help with rigging

Yes, AlanD, you are correct. This is the boat as he received it yesterday. He plans to re-rig it today to make it class legal. We have an extra daggerboard button. I The rigging is "off" as this boat was not used for racing the last few years. It was just used for fun.

    Help with rigging

Thanks for all your answers. Yes, he's redoing some of the rigging. The boat he already had was very well rigged with upper end race rigging so he's finding the best way between the two boats. But the hull of his other boat is just old and not good. He'll toss the "worst" rigging on the old boat...

    Help with rigging

The son just brought home a new (to him) boat (thanks Flewelling for selling to us!!!). He is confused by one part of the rigging. He's a pretty experienced Laser sailer and can't figure out the purpose of the blue bungee type cord in the attached pictures. Thanks, in advance, for any and all...

Is your Laser that is for sale still available? We are actively looking and would like to purchase by this weekend. We are serious about a purchase (yours or other - depending on who still have their boat available). Like I said, we are serious about a purchase so we would appreciate your...

Injecting? Cannot get Epoxy in the holes!

Here is how we drilled the holes.

Injecting? Cannot get Epoxy in the holes!

Go here: https://www.westsystem.com/wp-content/uploads/Fiberglass-Manual-2015.pdf Start at section 5. This is pretty much what we used as a guide. We drilled at least 100 holes in the cockpit floor. We filled with epoxy and then we gelcoated the entire cockpit and deck. It looks great and is...

Injecting? Cannot get Epoxy in the holes!

We did this to our son's boat due to a spongy cockpit. When looking at your pictures it appears that one of your holes, that you drilled, is right over a piece of wood that runs down the middle of the cockpit under the cockpit floor. Obviously, there is no cavity under that so the epoxy is only...

    Laser Value Question

It depends on a number of things. Is it full or radial rig? How many sails does it come with? Are they Laser brand sales or knock offs - like Intensity, etc? I am in Ontario a boat that age would go for about $2500 - 3000 with two sails and a dolly.

    Re-Gelcoating entire deck

UPDATE.... The repair is done! Painting is done! It's turned out very, very well. I will post pictures of the whole process in the next few days - the drilling the holes, the filling, the sanding, the painting, etc. We're pretty proud of how well it went considering that 100% of our Laser...

    New to sailing

I am not a sailor so take my advice with as much weight (or lack thereof) as you want..... But....my son has been a member of our local club sailing school for years now and that means, as a parent, I have spent countless hours watching new people learn to sail. I would also agree that you need...

    Re-Gelcoating entire deck

Not harsh. I welcome the advice from all fronts. And, YES, we are inexperienced boat repairers. Hubby is incredibly handy (having put in our kitchen, all hardwood and finishing our basement when we built our house) but painting gelcoat is a whole different beast, I am sure. Anyway, after...

    Re-Gelcoating entire deck

Well, we have thought about this. But what do you think the chances are of us matching the gelcoat of a worn, 30 year old Laser? Is this realistic? Obviously if it could be done I would MUCH rather do this. Further thoughts..... I don't want the boat to look like total crap. But, I also...

    Re-Gelcoating entire deck

What we did was drill holes, about an inch apart in both the textured part of the cockpit and the sides of the deck adjacent to the cockpit. In the cockpit we used West Marine epoxy/resin/fiberglass to fill each hole until oozing out. On the deck we also drilled holes and used a water proof...

    Re-Gelcoating entire deck

Has anyone successfully done this? Obviously I understand what materials to use and all about ensuring the deck texture is still there. I am looking for tips or techniques anyone who has done this might have used to make things work out a little easier. Basically, I want to learn from any...
