I don't race and I'm no expert so I can't say if what I do is optimal, but in 18+ knots I tighten the c. and v. and o. as per folklore and after that I let out the sheet until I can keep the boat flat. In 20 knots my boom is even with or outside the gunnel. Note that I leave some slack in the...
Are you sure you need to re-gelcoat? Have you tried wet sandpapering and buffing the hull?
For fixing the gunnels, I assume you have small chips and scratches, these are easy to repair. The hardest part is matching the gelcoat color to the repair surface color. My boat has a cream/putty...
I suggest you put you're living room sofa outside under a cover and keep the boat in the living room for the winter. (get a divorce first)
Ok, I'll try and be serious. if the cover is waterproof there will be condensation under the cover, is this ok? I guess it could penetrate small cracks...
>> The only top section failure I have heard about (from the sailor) was with the old kicker:
>> He rounded the top mark with a very tight kicker but couldn't get it out of the jammer. A gust heeled >> him over and the boom end hit the water leading to his mast getting a lot shorter...
Why...
I have a 78 with no wear to leading edge of board (I bought the boat from a guy who hardly ever sailed, and I have used it for 2 summers). I don't bungee my board, I just loosely tie my painter to the board. My brake holds the board down, I've never seen is pop up. I pretty much need two hands...
Best not to tie outhaul and clew tiedown until you are ready to go (centreboard and rudder in already). On windy/shifty days it can be a bit tricky to tie down as you may have to fight the wind, but you can let go your boom or the line if you have to.
I'm must be doing something wrong when tacking. I was sailing in 15-20 knots yesterday and for some reason, the boat (sometimes) remains still (and flat) for 1 or 2 seconds once on the new reach. Also when this happened the acceleration on the new tack was very slow? Could my outhaul have been...
I love my new setup and I don't race, I would say it is very useful if you are light so you can use the extra leverage to depower the boat on 15+ knot days. I bought at the end of the season at 40% off.
