    ILCA vs Laser...help

Laser Performance have no stock but you can find sails here. P&B claim to have class legal and class compliant sails in stock, the price difference is £186 (£540 & £364). My class compliant sail is made in China and seems to sail just as well as the class legal sail. As a fleet/club we have...

Very interesting please elaborate and supply some pictures/supporting information as my first new boats was 160888 and my current boat is a 212000 Ice Blue and I have never had these problems, or, seen them at other boats in my clubs?

    Class Politics  ILCA Logo

Which is the official ILCA logo and how do they manage to use the Laser starburst? The sails are different again with no starburst.

    Main sheet block upgrade?

I still use these, they seem to work well and I can slide my hand down the sheet and turn the ratchet on and off without looking at the block, great for start line tactics when you do not want everyone to know you are sheeting in but you need to turn on the ratchet with the minimum fuss whilst...

Class Politics The future of the laser: sorcerer's apprentices and the goose that lays the golden eggs by Gilles GLUCK

Apologies, not my intention just my understanding and interpretation of your post which I thought made some very good points. As an engineer I know tolerances cost money because of the additional time and skill needed. Certainly cost might also be a reflection of highly skilled and better paid...

Class Politics The future of the laser: sorcerer's apprentices and the goose that lays the golden eggs by Gilles GLUCK

AlanD many thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your views, it was not time wasted but time invested for the record. So much better than some of the other posts which seem to ignore any correct assertions and simply claim some of the facts are wrong but do not take the time to explain why...

Effective way to do hike bench training?

Its and age issue as your muscles become weaker and you have to bare in mind I have been sailing a Laser for over 30 years and I started sailing late and am a GGM! During this time I regularly went to the gym about three times a week (and still did until lock down) and did sit ups and crunches...

Effective way to do hike bench training?

Sorry to disappoint you but high tech would have been MEMs sensors wired to an Arduino with a Bluetooth module and a display on a smart phone. Instead it is a $5 fishing scale with a block and line from my oddments box. The first would have taken months the second took minutes and the output is...

Class Politics The future of the laser: sorcerer's apprentices and the goose that lays the golden eggs by Gilles GLUCK

The piece reminded me of when I first learnt to sail in the early 80's and everyone told me I needed a Solo I would hate a Laser. Stuck with the Solo for one season, too expensive, too much maintenance, too many adjustments for a newbie and I was too light. So I just bought a Laser and loved it...

Class Politics  The future of the laser: sorcerer's apprentices and the goose that lays the golden eggs by Gilles GLUCK

This is a piece which was published on the front page of the Association France Laser web site in March 2020. It was written by a Grand Master Gilles Gluck. It is 20 pages long and talks about how the Laser arrived in Europe and why it took off before looking at the many changes which have taken...

    Laero?

Initially I found exactly the same thing, much more comfortable than a Laser for a club race, it was only the regatta experience which stressed the knees/legs. It could have been poor adjustment of the hiking strap or the long downwind runs on my knees in the centre of the boat.

    Laero?

I take a different view, it is the rig which is the Aero's strength and the hull which lets it down. I don't need power I am looking for control and I have found the Aero rig ticks all the boxes without super human effort, I love it. The ARC2 rig is just the same but with a lower boom and a...

    Laero?

Could I make a Laero by putting an Aero 7 rig on a Laser? Would it sail properly and be correctly balanced? Or should I just buy an ARC2 as I will be too old to sail by the time the C rigs are available?
