Good stuff. I know the process pretty well.
In the article it says "Remember that you are not attempting nor are you allowed to change the shape of your boat. This is a cosmetic repair, not a speed enhancement."
What if your cosmetic repair is also a speed enhancement?
Tricky.
Officially, what can I do (or not do) to the bottom of my laser and still remain class legal?
Some local boats are seriously scratched up and we want to restore them to a racing bottom, but how do we do that without making any "alterations to the gelcoat", as stated in the rules. Seems like a...
Those are good points, and I will say it again, I am frustrated with the class politics and have been for years. I am merely playing devil's advocate and trying to define what are legitimate complaints and what are not.
It would be naive not to assume that purchasing parts from Australia...
These aren't apples in a grocery store or spark plugs at Napa, they are custom built products that are being sourced from only one builder. Its not like you can go elsewhere when they run out, they are at the mercy of the manufacturer.
I saw a change when they had trouble getting blades last...
I completely agree. Nice rant Gouv.
Although, I will add this just to mix things up a bit. I am aware of some long-overdue restructuring within the company. Changes abound, and with them will most likely be a change in inventory management. The company itself has been through quite a bit in the...
I imagine it is slowing me down quite a bit. I can try to sharpen the trailing edge but its not as if it is dull or warped. I haven't installed a new centerboard brake. I am stumped to be honest.
Hi guys,
I'm looking to attach a GoPro on the bow of my laser. What are people using for a mount? Obviously I don't want anything adhesive sticking to my hull. Any ideas?
SD
I noticed a distinct humming sound coming from what seemed to be my centerboard. It would only vibrate when I was sailing close-hauled, full hike and full speed. It went away if I slowed down or changed my point of sail.
I suspect a warped centerboard perhaps, or is it something else?
Anyone...
I have been doing a lot of comparison shopping and forum searching for the best carbon tiller. I think it was pretty unanimous that the Acme Black Diamond Tiller is the best in strength and design. I waited for months to try and catch one used for sale, nothing ever turned up so I bought it new...
Thanks, I'll let him know you said that. :p
Yes, he loves to swim! Ever since he was a pup.
Honestly, he is the smartest, kindest, softest little dog I have ever known, and he happens to be mine. He is a gift.
Hey,
I'm looking for a black diamond tiller like yours, just wondering if it is 29" or 39". I believe they come from the factory at 39", did you modify it or is that a mistake in the post?
Thanks!
I did tour the factory earlier this year, it did seem a little quiet on the shop floor with a minimalist crew. I can't make any comparison to "good times" because I haven't seem them in full swing. I do know some peeps there maybe I can squeeze out some info, If I do, of course, I'll return with...
I think you guys might be changing my mind as I type, I just can't get over the price of legal gear (sails, blades, etc.) vs. Intensity's. Its the difference between me being able to sail right now or saving for another month or two.
I just bought a new hull and I'm dying to get it in the...
Good point. Although it may be a while until I want to do any serious competing. Ideally I would like to sail every sunday with the Intensity blades and then use my class ones for racing events.
So it is my plan to eventually buy both sets.
I need a new rudder and centerboard and was thinking hard about Intensity's yellow ones. I am just wondering how fleet 413 feels about me sailing with these.
If it were a different fleet I might not be so apprehensive but I have a lot of respect for the guys who sail there and I plan to be a...
SGT, no idea what caused the issue between the deck and hull but I am dreading that part of the boat. For the rest of you here's what he's talking about:
Yikes!!!
Thanks Bungo, that really did help a lot.
I agree, adding an inspection port would help, plus I have a gouge through the glass on the foredeck, I could just use that spot for the new port hole.
So, on the foredeck I will grind down the epoxy spots, refill with West System and probably 407...
