News Introducing the OSEPODS Concept

Why do we now need a contrived acronym to describe what the class has been doing for more than 50 years already?

Just because we know it doesn’t mean that others do.

IMO, It looks very much like marketing to non-ILCA sailors and decision makers as the marketplace for events (like the Olympics) and their supported classes is pretty competitive.

Everybody who chooses the classes for the Olympics, Youth Worlds, etc. (that is, World Sailing) knows already extremely well what the class is about. Furthermore, there’s no real competition in sight for the ILCA on this front, and even if there were, all/any new classes are/would be one-design in a very similar way. In fact, of the current Olympic classes only the 470 is the last ”old-fashioned” one with a ”whatever measures in” philosophy. (The kites have free hull design but that’s a somewhat different story.)
