removing inspection hatch / replacing daggerboard grip/carpet

I'm doing some maintenance on an old Laser 2 I've just acquired, and I'm not sure how to remove the rivets (see pic attached). Do I use a chisel to shear off the heads of each?
Also - I want to replace the strip of carpet that's used to grip the daggerboard. Any suggestions what to replace it with / where to get it?

Rivets: drill them out. Ideally, the drill bit should be the same size as the hole. Start out with a bit that's slightly bigger than you think you need, and go easy at first. When the first head is off, you see what the right size is, and the rest is easy and fast to do.
