Bahamas Dinghy

Our Sunfish restoration was stalled by Summer heat, and now a 1930s ten foot Bahamas dinghy has mysteriously appeared, a gift from a new friend. We'll work on the dinghy over the Winter.

Anyone familiar with shoulder of mutton sails, Bahama style?

There was an added mast thwart, in a good spot for a lateen rig. Just sayin...

Hi Clark!
I made a Bolger 59 sqft 'leg-o-mutton' sprit sail for a PDR based on the instructions from Shortypen and Dave at Polytarp.

Mine has a 16 foot mast, 9 foot sprit, and you get to use the word 'snotter' in polite conversation.
I might have CAD for the sail on an old computer, let me know if interested.

I was given a leg-o-mutten sail many years ago. It was immense and made of real canvas!

It hung around until I needed a big cover to keep my roller's paint off the floor.

I mention this only because it had four sides

Sounds like a neat old sail. My understanding is 3 sides is the thing that make a leg-of-mutton unique among other spritsails.

Shoulder of mutton is kind of a 4 sided sail, due to the unique "headboard" aka banana board. It is almost like a small gaff rig.
