batten caps stuck in my sails!

When I bought my boat it came with a few used sails that went on a shelf and didn't see the light of day for a while.

Pulled one out today and discovered that the batten caps (or something?) are stuck in the batten pockets. The batten has been removed, but there's still something in there.

Anybody solved this?

Really difficult to work out. The loose piece gets trapped in the elastic, and the elastic just won't let go. You'll have to squeeze the batten cap from both sides and work it loose, sort of like a giant toothpaste tube.

For preventative maintenance, epoxy the caps to the ends of the battens. This will keep them from ever coming loose.

I have the same problem, for now I have been just shoving the battens into the sleeve and into the cap, I guess it will help keep the battens in the sleeve with the cap holding them in there.
