End for End Top Section question

Hi all,

I have discovered that my long suffering top section has got a slight bend in it. I am intending to end for end it but I have 1 question.

Do you put the old rivet holes in tension or compression (i.e. should the bent bit point forwards or backwards?)

I did a search but couldn't see anything about this specific question.

Cheers,

Paul

If teh mast is bent it is technically not legal to use it anymore.

But reason says ...use it end for ended..

The rivet holes that close to the top ( one foot or 30 cm from the tip ...don't matter a bit. If a little hiole up there mattered the stress down lower would be huge!!!

Anyway. Look at the mast and put the bend so the tip points straight foreword.

This configuration will give you an illegal help with your leech tension.

If you don't feel like cheating... straighten the mast.

Thanks Fred, as tactful as always!

The straightening goes without saying I just wanted to put the 'weaker' end at the top so prevent having to make a clain when it snaps. My insurance company are only just starting to talk to me from my previous period of Laser ownership.
