Vanguard Lasers after 162,000.

I recently saw a "for sale" ad for a Laser numbered in the 162,000 range. The seller of the boat mentioned that his boat was "one of the last real Lasers before the Vanguard disaster."
What's with this?

My guess it was one made by Sunfish/Laser around 1997 before Vanguard bought them out. There are varying stories of varying build quality by varying builders. Personally, I have owned a couple different Vanguard Lasers that were just fine. And even a well-built boat can go soft after 15 years.

That ad created a false picture. In general, Vanguard boats are considered to be more consistent in quality than the ones from SunfishLaser. If you don't believe me, just dig into the Forum archives.

PS: I have a 175... Vanguard hull and it has held up fine, despite many newbie disasters.
